UHBVN cuts 75,550 connections for non-payment of bills

Chandigarh, Aug 6 (UNI) Intensifying its ongoing campaign against non-payers of electricity bills, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has disconnected the connections of 75,550 non-payers during the current financial year.

A Nigam spokesman said here today that 18,792 connections of non-payers had been disconnected temporarily or permanently in Ambala and Panchkula districts, 16,269 in Yamunanagar, 13,898 in Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts, 8,278 in Karnal, 7,621 in Panipat, 5,892 in Rohtak and Jhajjar districts, 1,881 in Jind and 2,919 in Sonepat district.

The Nigam had to recover Rs 31.23 crore from these non-paying consumers out of which Rs 24.54 crore had been recovered.

He said the Nigam would target four lakh permanent or temporary disconnections of non-payers in the current year.

As many as 60,000 defaulters would face disconnections in Ambala and Panchkula districts, 63,000 in Yamunanagar, 60,000 in Kurukshetra and Kaithal, 48,000 in Karnal, 25,000 in Panipat, 48,000 in Sonepat, 60,000 in Rohtak and Jhajjar and 36,000 in Jind, unless these consumers paid up their power dues.

The spokesman said the Power Utilities had purchased additional electricity on higher rates up to Rs 7.25 per unit with a view to ensuring adequate power supply to the consumers during summers and the Nigam expected timely payment from the consumers to keep up better supply of power.
