Two LET militants sentenced to 7 years imprisoment

New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) Additional sessions judge Ravinder Kaur today awarded seven years imprisonment and Rs 50,000 fine to two Lashkar- e-Toiba militants arrested in August 2002 under the POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act).

They were accused of planning to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Sangh Parivar leaders in the aftermath of 2002 Gujarat riots.

The special cell had arrested Farhan Ahmad and Sahid Ahmad from near DDA park in Nizammudin on August 28, 2002. According to prosecution the police recovered 4 kg of RDX, 1 Chinese pistol from these two following their arrest.

The special cell of Delhi police had charged the accused under provisions of POTA and Indian Penal Code pertaining to waging war against the nation. Farhaan and Sahed were charged with unauthorised possession of arms, ammunition and explosives under POTA.

According to prosecution, their targets were BJP, VHP and RSS leaders to avenge the killings during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
