Telugu Ganga water released to Tirupati, Tirumala regions

Tirupati, Aug 6 (UNI) The water released from the Kandaleru reservoir in Nellore District under the Telugu Ganga Project on Saturday, reached the Kailasagiri reservoir, near here today.

Local MLA M Venkataramana and Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) Chairman C H Bhaskar Reddy released 4.5 mc ft water from the Kalasagiri reservoir by switching on the motors for the residents of this water starved temple town and hill shrine Tirumala.

It would take at least 50 days to fill the Kailasagiri dam which has a storage capacity of 200 mc ft. The water would be sufficient to meet the requirements of the residents here for eight months.

The Andhra Pradesh government was taking all steps to ensure release of 4.5 mc ft of water from the dam daily, they added.
