Sunita Williams to receive Rajiv Gandhi award on Aug 12

Mumbai, Aug 6 (UNI) The Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) today announced that astronaut Sunita Williams has been chosen for the Rajiv Gandhi award under its super acheiver category.

A release issued by MRCC President Gurudas Kamat said that MRCC is organising the 10th Rajiv Gandhi award function on August 12 at NCPA, here. The award is instituted to commemorate the memory of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi.

Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, I&B Minister Priyaranjandas Munshi, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Congress General Secretary Margarate Alva, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress President Prabha Rau will grace the occasion.

The list of awardees for the year 2007 include veteran all rounder Kapil Dev (Sports), Shekhar Gupta (Journalism), Tulsi Tanti (Industrialist), Shilpa Shetty (Actress), Salman Khan (Actor), Dr Swati Piramal (Women Achiever), Sir Gulam K Noon, Global Indian, Padmashree D Y Patil (Educationist), Veerendra Hegde (Social Field Philonthropist), Kaushik N Bajaj (Young Entrepreneur), Pooja Bhangire (Child Prodigy).
