Landslides: Jammu national highway closed
Srinagar, Aug 6: Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying Amarnath Pilgrims, were stranded on the 300-km long Srinagar-Jammu highway, which was closed for traffic due to landslides triggered by heavy rains early this morning.
A traffic police official said that highway has been closed due to landslides and shooting of stones between Ramban, Ramsuand and Panthal, He said Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the countray has pressed into service machines and is working to make the highway traffic worthy.
Stranded vehicles would be allowed to move after the landslides are cleared, he said.
Official sources said thousands of passengers experienced Amarnath pilgrims were stranded on the highway.
The Kashmir valley, including Srinagar city expressed rains since early this morning resulting in considerable drop in the temperature which forced people to wear woolen.
