Sonia, Patil to visit flood affected Assam, Bihar

New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Shivraj Patil would visit the flood-affected areas of Asom and Bihar tomorrow to assess the situation and the ongoing relief and rescue operations.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Steel, Chemicals and Fertiliser Minister Ram Vilas Paswan would also accompany them during their visit to Bihar.

The floods in the North Eastern States have caused a lot of devastation and even the United Nations has described it as the worst flood in the history of the region.

Ms Gandhi and Mr Patil would go to the Dhemji airport in Asom from where they would make an aerial survey of flood-affected Morigaon, Kamrup, Nalbari and Barpeta districts.

In Bihar, the Central leaders would make an aerial survey of flood-affected districts of Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi and Samastipur.

In Samastipur, they would hold a meeting with state government officials to discuss the flood situation and the relief and rescue operations being carried out. They would also meet the flood affected people of the region to know about their problems and what measures they required to help them.
