Relax norms governing the Education sector: NASSCOM

Bangalore, Aug 6 (UNI) Alarmed over the high attrition rate in the IT and IT enabled Services (ITeS) industry, NASSCOM today sought relaxing of norms governing the Education sector.

BPO captains at the Nasscom India ITES-BPO Strategy Summit, 2007 here, felt there was a need to update curriculum in educational institutions to suit the sunrise sector to make youth 'employable'.

Genpect CEO and President Pramod Bhasin said the government rules did not allow private companies to start Educational Institutions.

"We have to ensure quality human resources is available in abundance as IT sector needs a huge number of such youth every year. Only this can help the country to remain ahead in the IT, BPO, ITeS and KPO sector.

He called for allowing a public-private partnership whereby BPO companies could train interested candidates in their free time in the Educational Institutes so that they could save on costs and also ensure quality employees.

The BPO industry had realised that moving to smaller cities like tier two and tier three cities to put a check on the alarming rate of attrition.

The industry was hoping that the NASSCOM sponsored NAC test, a standard certification programme could ensure a reliable and continous supply line to the BPO sector.
