Red alert for people residing on banks of Panchanganga

Kolhapur, Aug 6 (UNI) The district administration today sounded a red alert for the people residing on the banks of the Panchaganga river following continuous increase in the water level.

The Panchaganga river continued to swell in the last two days and its water level is increasing following incessant rains in the last four days. The water level of Panchaganga river was flowing at the height of 37 ft at Rajaram weir, which is close to the warning mark, at city's Kasaba-Bavada suburb. Three gates of Radhanagari dam were opened and they discharged 4,600 cusecs water in the Bhogavati river, which joins the Panchaganga river ahead, district collectorate sources said today.

During 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs, the district recorded 232.2 mm of rainfall. The highest of 69 mm was recorded in Radhanagari tehsil, sources said and added the district has recorded a total 604 mm rainfall during last 24 hours ended this morning, while Radhanagari tehsil recorded 141 mm during the same period.

The district has recorded a total 17,910 mm rainfall so far since the onset of monsoon season, the sources informed.

The road connectivity of some 20 villages was disrupted due to flood waters, they added.
