Rains benefit crops; fill catchment area of dams
Rajkot, Aug 6 (UNI) Widespread rains lashing several parts of Saurashtra and Kutch in the past 24 hours have benefitted crops like those of cotton, groundnut and pulses besides filling the catchment areas of dams with additional water.
The rains continued to lash parts of Rajkot, Junagadh, Porbandar Bhavnagar and Jamnagar districts for the second consective day today.
Sutrapada and Veraval in Junagadh district recorded 200 mm of rainfall during last 24 hrs, reports said, while the other talukas of the district recorded rainfall ranging from 25 mm to 100 mm.
Rajkot city today recorded 45.5 mm rains till 1430 hrs, taking the season's total to 633.8 mm rains, sources in the weather office said.
In other parts of the region, the rainfall recorded between 50 mm and 150 mm.
