Ist door-to-door surveillance over in 5-10 km zone in Manipur

New Delhi, Aug 06 (UNI) The first round of door-to-door surveillance, aimed at controlling and containing Bird Flu, has been completed in the entire 5-10 kms zone covering all the 79 sectors in Manipur and does not indicate any unusual mortality.

There is also no report of unusual mortality in any other part of the state, according to an official release here today.

Mopping, cleaning and disinfection operations continued in Manipur over the weekend. 21 RRTs supported by 108 hired labourers and 15 persons from Malaria Wing of the Health Department were engaged in operations.

The total number of birds culled so far has reached over 3,36,000 and feed destroyed, 25,242 kg. The work of clean up and disinfection has been initiated in 28 sectors in the 0-5 km radious.

Samples from Dibyoday Krishi Bigyan Kendra, Khowai under West Tripura District, Tripura and Vawmbuk Village, Saiha District are under test at High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL), Bhopal.

Unusual mortality had been reported in Khowai, resulting in death of about 500 out of 3,000 birds over flock history of 38 days upto August 2, 2007. No mortality has been reported from the farm on August 3 onwards.

Post-mortem is indicative of Infectious Bursal Disease. Unusual mortality of about 122 birds was also reported from Vawmbuk Village, Saiha District, Mizoram. However, no mortality has been reported from August 3 onwards. Symptom of poultry birds that have died is indicative of Fowl Pox.

There is no other report of unusual mortality from any other part of the country, the release added.
