HC directs Disaster Management dept to file progress report on flood

Patna, Aug 6 (UNI) Patna High Court today directed the disaster management department to file a progress report on the relief measures taken by the Bihar government in all the 19 flood affected districts.

Hearing a suo motu PIL on the flood situation in the state, the divison bench comprising Justice N Roy and Justice Kishore Kumar Mandal, however, postponed the hearing till August 9.

During the course of the hearing, Advocate General P K Shahi filed a report detailing all government measures in terms of providing relief to the affected and said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was himself monitoring the flood situation as well as and relief work on day-to-day basis.

Meanwhile, according to senior advocate Ganesh Prasad, relief measures were not being carried out in the right earnest. He said the relief packages consisted of only rice and wheat and there was no ready to eat foodstuff.
