Panaji, Aug 6 (UNI) The Goa government has constituted a three-member secretary-level committee to workout modalities for cutting trees that are endangering the safety of road users.

Disclosing this to mediapersons after a cabinet meeting here today, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said the government was contemplating enacting a legislation to empower authorities to cut unwanted trees.

The committee consisting secretary of Law, Revenue and Chief Conservator of Forests, has been asked to make recommendations for the purpose.

The legislative move has been undertaken owing to constant opposition by environmental group over cutting of trees on roads for road-widening or other purpose.

The government has decided to retain all the traditional footpaths and pathways that lead to public places without any hindrance or opposition from private parties, apart from protecting them from being encroached.
