BDR firing on BSF men in North Bengal border
Kolkata, Aug 6 (UNI) Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) personnel opened fire on Border Security Force (BSF) jawans after a cattle smuggler was shot dead at Hili in South Dinajpur district today.
A BSF official said Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) men fired more than five rounds at them after a Bangladeshi cattle smuggler was killed in BSF firing while trying to escape back to his country from Indian territory.
The deceased was the member of a gang of cattle smugglers, who were chased by BSF personnel.
Soon after, BDR personnel resorted to firing on the BSF from across the border.
There were, however, no reports of any casualty.
The BSF later sent a protest note to the BDR, the sources said.
The BSF and BDR had exchanged fire over cattle smuggling in Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts recently.
