Srinagar, Aug 6 (UNI) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti said New Delhi and Islamabad must allow cross-LoC movement of pilgrims from both sides of Kashmir.

''Given the strong emotional attachment and faith of the people with the revered shrines in the region such a step would go a long way in improving the relations,'' she said.

In a statement issued here today, Ms Mehbooba said as a confidence building measure pilgrims from across the LoC should be allowed to visit the shrines in Kashmir and Jammu regions.

She said those from this part of the State should also be allowed to visit the places of reverence on the other side.

This would be a good confidence building measure, increasing not only cross-LoC movement of people, but would also strengthen the traditional bonds on both sides, she expressed.

Reiterating the party's demand for allowing free movement of people and goods across the LOC and the border in all parts of the State, Ms Mehbooba said the people of the region are eagerly looking forward for such measures and these must be put into place, earlier the better.
