6 remanded to police custody till Aug 9 in Kadwa sugar scam

Nashik, Aug 6 (UNI) Six persons including the Executive Director have been remanded to police custody till Aug 9 in the Kadwa co-operative sugar factory scam.

According to sources, Vani police had arrested six accused in the Rs 3,13,59,560 sugar fraud case in Kadwa co-operative sugar factory on Aug 4. They were produced before a local court which remanded them to police custody till Aug 9. Police are searching for the remaining accused.

Executive Director Namdeo Vithoba Bhabadkar, chief accountant Shivaji Bhalerao, assistant accountant Baburao Aher, cashier Raghunath Jadhav, clerk Pandit Kisan Shelke and inspector of state co-operative Bank N V Jondhale were remanded to police custody.

The main accused Paresh Thakkar had been given police custody earlier. Search is on for the remaining four accused, special auditor of the sugar department Babasaheb Sukhdev Gadakah, traders Chandrakant Swaroopsingh Lodha, Pooja Paresh Thakkar and sugar sales chief Prakash Nivrutti Patil.

The 11 have been accused of selling sugar worth Rs 3,13,59,560 during the period June 25, 2004 to December 22, 2005 illegaly. A case of fraud and cheating had been registered against them under section 420, 408, 409, 468, 471, 472, 201 and 134 (b) of the Indian Penal code on July 25, this year UNI GB NV SM1443
