15-year boy in jail custody for 73 days on rape charges

Kolkata, Aug 6 (UNI) A division bench of Calcutta High court today directed the West Bengal Government to produce a medical report into the alleged rape of a four-year-old-girl by her 15-year-old cousin brother, who is now in jail custody for 73 days.

Justice Amit Talukdar and Justice Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee directed the government after counsel Idris Ali moved a bail petition on behalf of the accused Shaikh Ahmed of Panpukur village in Bankura district saying the charge was false and motivated as defendant and complaintant were relatives and involved in litigation of property disputes.

Mr Ali said it was heart rending that a boy was kept in jail custody for 73 days and alleged about the biasness of the police to handle the case.

The court would hear the case on August 13 and ordered the public prosecutor Animesh Goswami to produce the medical reports.
