Upliftment of downtrodden is my top priority: Maudhany

Kollam, Aug 5 (UNI) People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Abdul Nasser Maudhany today said his first priority would be for the upliftment of downtrodden people in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, he said though he would continue his political activities, its place would be only behind it, as he wanted to uplift these people.

Mr Maudhany, who arrived in his native district for the first time after he was acquitted of all charges in the sensational 1988 Coimbatore serial bomb blast cases by a Coimbatore Special Court, said he did not see any significance for the formation of a Third Front in the state currently. A political atmosphere in this regard has not yet emerged till now, he added.

Disclosing his immediate activities, he said he would formulate a ''Health Voluntary Sena'' by coordinating youths from his party in all the districts. They would create awareness campaigns and cleanliness in all districts, he added.

Besides this, he would also open schools in all villages, where sufficient schools were not existing and its headquarter would be at Karunagapilly, he said.

Rejecting the medical assistance extended by State Health Minister P K Sreemathy, he said the amount should be utilised for providing medical assistance to the people suffering from Chikungunya.
