Six killed, 70 injured in road mishaps in Punjab

Hoshiarpur, Aug 5: Six people, including a woman and a young boy were killed while 70 injured in three separate road accidents in the district since last night, police said today.

According to police sources, three of a family were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a bus near Satnaur village, near Garhshankar this morning. Thirty two passengers in the bus sustained injuries when the vehicle overturned after hitting the two wheeler.

The victims were identified as Harpal Singh, his wife Jaswinder Kaur and son Jindi (14), residents of Shekupur village in Nawanshahar district.

The police have registered a case against the bus driver and conductor, both of whom are absconding. The injured were taken to the civil hospital at Garhshankar and were discharged after first aid.

In another accident a brother and sister were killed while 20 others injured when the tractor-trolley in which they were travelling overturned near Takhni village today. The deceased were identified as Moosam (9) and her brother Gaurav (14), daughter and son of Madan Lal, of Bairvai village in Badaiun district of Uttar Pradesh.

All the injured were migrant labourers who were going to Takhni from Kullian village. Seventeen of the injured were discharged after first aid from the civil hospital at Haryana while three were admitted.

In the third accident, a truck driver was killed while 18 pilgrims injured in a head-on collision between two trucks. The deceased truck driver was identified as Sonu of Gulla Chika village in Haryana.

The injured pilgrims were going to the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi when the accident occurred. Three of them were seriously injured and referred to the DMC hospital at Ludhiana while the rest were admitted at the civil hospital at Mukerian.
