NSF pulls out of NESO in Nagaland
Kohima, Aug 5: In a serious setback to students' unity in the North East, the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has pulled out of the North East Students' Organization (NESO), alleging that the latter was more inclined towards politics than students' welfare.
Talking to mediapersons here yesterday, NSF president Imchatoba Imchen said the NSF had decided to dissociate itself from the NESO.
The main reason behind the fallout seemed to be difference of opinion between the NSF and NESO officials over the NSF's fielding of two candidates of NESO, without naming any post, in the general consul meeting-cum-election, held on August three and four at Shillong.
''I am surprised that the working principle of NESO is one member from each member organisation. NSF fielded two candidates only to strengthen NESO,'' Mr Imchen said.
He also alleged that lack of communication and negligence on the part of NESO officials, representing NSF, had resulted in the federation receiving information about the NESO meeting just two days before the meeting.
The NSF president said the federation had participated in the meeting, even though it had been postponed twice.
Mr Imchen disclosed that Secretary General of NESO N S N Lotha had sought NSF's recommendation to retain the same post. However, the federation had turned down his request as Mr Lotha had already declared himself as a candidate for the coming State Assembly elections.
