NDA govt fails to seek support from NGOs for relief: Subodh

Patna, Aug 5 (UNI) Union Minister of state for food processing Subodh Kant Sahay today alleged that Nitish Kumar government had failed to inspire the individuals and Non Government Organisations(NGOs) for active participation in launching the relief and rescue operations.

Mr Sahay told reporters here that flood fury was nothing new in Bihar but the 'unpreparedness' of the state governmnt to tackle the situation was surprising and alleged that it indicated a high degree of callousness towards the suffering of the affected people.

''Nitish Kumar lacks the dynamism to inspire the people's participation in relief and rescue operation in flood affected areas,'' he remarked, adding that earlier there used to be spontaneous response from the commom man to initiate the relief and rescue operation from their limited resources.

Similarly, he said the government had not called the meeting of the NGOs to seek their cooperation in carrying out the relief and rescue operation in this hour of catastrophe.

''The relief and rescue operation of this magnitude could not be carried out through government machineries alone and there must be a serious attempt to involve the NGOs in providing succour to the suffering people,'' Mr Sahay maintained.

The Centre was prepared to extend all kinds of help to state government to tackle the flood situation but the approach of the government in tackling the situation was not proper, he said.

The government had not sent a formal request to the Centre for assistance for flood fighting measures, he added.

''I had alerted almost all major food processing industries to send the 'edibles' in the flood affected areas in sufficient amount, if sought by the Bihar government,'' Mr Sahay said.

He lamented that Nitish Kumar had not contacted any food processing industries so far.

Referring to the death of JD(U) MP Ajit Singh in road accident, the Union minister said the Centre would order a CBI inqiury into the incident, if state government recommended for the same.

The wife of the departed leader had already requested the state government for a thorough probe into the accident, suspecting it to be a conspiracy to kill her husband.
