Mumbai gets treat of Western classical music
Mumbai, Aug 5 (UNI) Mumbai music lovers had a tryst with German and Italian classical music at the 'Lieder and Arias' concert by Nicola Bellar Carbone yesterday complementing the mood of the monsoon.
Accompanied by Stefan Blunier, a music director on the piano, Nicola started with Lieder-German style of classical music, where poems are set as songs. The themes, longing for one's lover, ode to France and playful disdain for a discreet lover, were emoted with sensitivity.
In the Arias (an expressive Italian classical style) section, where singing is more dramatic and vocally demanding, Nicole's performance enthralled the audience.
Shouts for an encore resonated after the performance persuading Nicola to sing 'Summertime'.
Carbone, born in Germany and raised in Spain, is one of the world's leading opera singers. She has performed with Opera de Nice, Berliner Philharmonie and Opera of Graz. She is currently the artistic director at the 'Le Arti Orafe Academy' at Lucca, Italy.
Blunier was born in Bern and studied violin and piano. He began as repetiteur and assistant conductor in Mainz. He has worked with most of the major German orchestras, including the radio orchestra of Frankfurt, Leipzig and Berlin.
He has also recorded all the violin concertos of Lalo, Rezinek and Schillings.
