LDF Govt paving way for corruption in SSA scheme: Chennitala

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 5 (UNI) Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Ramesh Chennithala today alleged that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government was paving the way for corruption in the Rs 172-crore World Bank funded Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) by implementing the scheme through pro-CPM Kerala School Teachers' Association (KSTA) in the state.

Participating in a face-to-face programme of the Kesari Memorial Journalists Trust here, he demanded that the government should disclose all details on how it would spend the amount and implement the SSA project.

In case of any allegations about utilising the fund meant for the SSA, a probe should be ordered to clear the doubts of people in this regard, he said and charged the government with not discussing the matter with other teachers organisations and educational experts.

The government should immediately abandon the move to carry out the project through KSTA and also discuss it with other teachers union, he said.

The KPCC chief alleged that the move to hand over schools to civic bodies, the CPI(M) was trying to interfere in the internal matters of school administration, which according to him would invite serious consequences.

About the agitations against the government by the minority communities, he said as the Congress party believed in secularism, it would support them since their demands were genuine.

Replying to another question, he said the Congress still wanted that the self-financing professional college admission issue be settled by adopting the 50:50 ratio.
