8 arrested for indulging in vandalism in Meerut court
Meerut, Aug 5 (UNI) Eight people, including one woman, were arrested and a magisterial inquiry ordered in connection with the destruction caused in a court here following the death penalty handed to five convicts in a four-year-old triple murder case.
Senior police officer Vijay Prakash here today said raids were conducted late last night and this morning, and so far eight people had been arrested.
Mr Prakash said Meerut District Magistrate Nitishwar Kumar has entrusted the inquiry to Head Development Officer Roshan Jacob. He further said based on the investigation report those arrested can be charged under the National Security Act (NSA).
The convicts were handed the death sentences by Upper District Judge Subodh Kumar in the triple murder case which was born out of a land dispute.
As soon as the verdict was read out by the judge, the relatives and supporters of the convicts went on the rampage on the court premises, which led to a stampede there.
