Intermittent showers lash suburbs
Mumbai, Aug 4 (UNI) After torrential rains, which lashed the island city yesterday, intermittent showers today continued to lash the northern suburbs of the metropolis decreasing the temperature further.
The total rainfall recorded in the city for the last 24 hours till 0830 hrs this morning was 111.2 mm at Colaba in south Mumbai and 63.2 mm at Santacruz in north Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau has forecast spells of rain or thundershowers with a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the city and suburbs in the next 24 hours accompanied by strong winds.
Suburban rail services on the harbour and central lines and flights from the Chatrapati Shivaji Airport were on schedule.
Road traffic on the S V Road linking Bandra to Borivali was slow as a result of intermittent showers lashing the suburbs.
However, the trough of low pressure on the sea level chart extending off the north Maharashtra coast to the Kerala coast now lies extending off the south Gujarat coast to Lakshadweep area.
Moderate to rather heavy rainfall is likely to occur at many places over south central Maharashtra, a few places over north central Maharashtra, Marathwada and at most places over the Konkan region.
The MET department has issued a 'Port Warning' to fishermen on the south Maharashtra-Goa coast against going into the high seas. As southwesterly winds at a speed of 45-50 Kmph temporarily reaching 60 Kmph in gusts or squall will turn the sea rough with southwesterly waves during the next 24 hours.
