GSI team in Sangrur to study obeject from sky
Sangrur, Aug 4 (UNI) A three-member team of Geological Survey of India (GSI) reached here today to examine the mysterious object which had fallen from sky into a field in Hotipur village in the district.
The team comprising GSI directors, Dr Baldev Singh, Dr Jagjeet Singh and GSI directors and senior analyst Dr R S Rana, arrived here this morning and examined the stone.
They later visited Hotipur village to meet Pargat Singh in whose field the object had fallen and talked in detail about the incident.
They also took samples of the soil where the object had fallen.
Later, talking to mediapersons at the SSP's office, Dr Rana said that the object will be split into three parts and one each would be sent to the GSI's national research labs in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.
The team refused to speculate about the nature of the object and said the true picture will emerge only after the reports from the three labs came out.
However, they said that there was no need for panic as such incidents happen once in a while and even last year, such objects had fallen in parts of Rajasthan and in Karnal in Haryana.
On being asked whether it could be a meteor, he did not rule out the possibility but stressed one should wait for the detailed official report in the matter.
The object, which looked like a black coloured piece of rock from outer scpace, had emitted bright light for sometime which had later died down, according to Pargat Singh.
According to district officials, the object appeared to be quite heavy from a distance but when it was lifted by a policeman, it weighed around 10 grams.
The district administration had taken away the object which would now be sent to the three GSI labs.
