BJP to raise unfair nuclear deal in Parliament

Chennai, Aug 4 (UNI) Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu today said his party will raise in the coming Monsoon session of Parliament the ''unfair nature'' of the Indo-US Civil nuclear deal with the United States.

Addressing a press conference here, he also alleged that the CPI(M) and CPI were adopting double standards on the firing incidents in Nandigaram village in West Bengal and recently in Mudigonda in Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh. This would also be raised in the House, he added.

He alleged that as per the agreement India loses its right to conduct nuclear test and charged that the assurances which the Prime Minister had given to Parliament of protecting India's rights, have not been fulfilled.

As per the present agreement, US government can terminate the deal at its whims and there is no provision facilitating India to institute an alternative if the US terminates the deal, he claimed.

He said the BJP calls for a wider, meaningful debate on the issue.

''And our nuclear scientists should also debate the issue,'' he added.

Referring to the firing incidents in Nandigram and Mudigonda villages, Mr Naidu alleged that while the CPI(M) was supporting the party-led West Bengal government on the former issue, the CPI was seeking the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy on Khammam issue.

But in both cases it was innocent people who were and killed, he alleged, adding the CPI(M) government in Bengal was facing charges of atrocities on women and indiscriminate attack on innocent villagers.

The Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh must own moral responsibility and resign, he demanded.
