Youth killed by saltwater crocodile in Bhitarkanika

Kendrapada, Aug 03 (UNI) In a tragic incident a man was killed when a saltwater crocodile attacked him while he was busy fishing in a creek inside the Bhitarkanika National Park (BNP).

Forest official sources here today said Sukumar Giri (22), a resident of Narayanpur village under Rajnagar police station died on July 30 last in the reptile's attack.

The youth had gone to the Mahisamada creek along with his uncle when the mishap took place.

The villagers yesterday brought the matter before the authority of the Rajnagar mangrove forest and wildlife division, demanding Rs one lakh compensation to the next kin of the deceased as per the wildlife protection guidelines.
