Witness in Beant case moves HC for security
Chandigarh, Aug 3 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice for August 17 to the Chandigarh Administration on the petition filed by Balwinder Singh, a witness in the Beant Singh assassination case.
The petition which came up for hearing before the Division Bench of Justice P Sathasivam and Justice Rajive Bhalla sought enhancement of the security provided to him and his family following the award of death sentence to two and life iprisonment to three others in the Beant case.
The petitioner was the first to identify one of the persons involved in the assassination from newspapers, after which the police was able to nab almost everyone involved in the plot to assassinate former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh.
Balwainder Singh has prayed to increase security and also to provide a vehicle to him for moving about under protection.
A CBI Special Court had recently awarded death sentence to Babbar Khalsa terrorists Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh, while three others--Gurmit Singh, Shamsher Singh and Lakhwinder Singh were awarded life imprisonment in the case.
