Vedant to start work of 1000 bedded Hospital in September

Bhubaneswar, Aug 03 (UNI) The Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), promoted by Vedant Resources Chairman Anil Agarwal, will commence the work of its 1000 bedded most modern hospital in Orissa during this September.The project, which also envisaged a Medical College, was a part of its first phase of Rs 15,000 crore world class multi-disciplinary Vedant University in the state.

Mr Agarwal had signed an MoU with the state government on July 19 last year for setting up of the University on the Puri-Konark marine drive.

He later agreed to a proposal of chief minister Naveen Patnaik to set up a modern hospital and focus on research and treatment on cancer, heart ailments and diabetis.

A delegation of the Vedant Resources led by its vice-president today met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and submitted a proposal to reduce the land required for the University project from 8000 acres to 6200 acres.

The AAF had deposited Rs 27 crore with the government towards acquisition of land for the purpose. Official sources said the state government has handed over 300 acres of land to the AAF to start the construction work of the Hospital and Medical College.

Later talking to mediapersons, the Chief Minister said the AAF had agreed to abide by the Rehabilitation and Resettlement policy of the state and start the first integrated project of 1000 bedded hospital.

Mr Agarwal had committed a personal endowment of USD one billion towards the setting up of Vedant University, which would be completed by 2020.

The state government had agreed to pass a specific legislation to provide complete autonomy to the University.
