Revival of south west monsoon over central India

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The current meteorological conditions suggest a revival in monsoon activity over central and adjoining peninsular India, the Met department said today.

A low pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal tomorrow along with a southward shift in monsoon trough.

The low-pressure area is likely to become more marked and move slowly in a west-northwesterly direction.

Enhanced rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rains are likely over Orissa, north Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during August 4-7.

Subsequently, the enhanced rainfall belt is likely to shift to Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and south Rajashtan during August 8-11.

Gujarat, Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall (over 25 cm), particularly on August 10 and 11.

The central and adjoining peninsular India may again experience another active spell of rains from August 11 in association with the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal.

However, the rainfall activity over northeastern states and northern plains is likely to be subdued till mid August, according to a Science and Technology Ministry press release.
