Minister calls for joint effort to revolutionize education secto

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Minister of State for Human Resource Development Minister D Purandeswari today called for joint and concerted efforts from all stakeholders to bring about a revolution in the education sector.

''All stakeholders from across the spectrum-- villagers, service providers, policy makers, technologists and others-- should come together to achieve the objective,'' Ms Purandeswari said while addressing the 4th Convention of national Alliance for Mission 2007 'Every Village Knowledge Centre' at IGNOU.

Pointing out the benefits of such a convergence, she said teachers, in India as well as abroad, can network amongst themselves and share their experiences.

''Development planners are not utilising their energy in an optimal manner... This energy is being dissipated in all kinds of miscellaneous services. If provided the right kind of training, rural teachers could take the knowledge revolution a long way,'' she added.

Ms Purandeswari said in the present education system, quality continues to be a major area of concern.

''Even after 5-6 years of schooling , children cannot compose a paragraph in their local language or do a simple arithmetic. Village Knowledge Centres (VKC) can improve this by devising learning tools,'' she added.

The Minister said VKC can become a significant delivery channel for knowledge resources and develop a two-way communication.

''VKC being anchored in community engagement, would help the Abhiyan to develop deep linkages with the community,'' she said.
