K'taka to aim 4.5% growth in agri under XI Plan
Bangalore, Aug 3 (UNI) The review meeting of agriculture sector in Karnataka chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today resolved to achieve 4.5 per cent growth during XI Plan period.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar said that it was resolved to achieve additional production of ten lakh tonne of rice, four lakh tonne of pulses, five lakh tonne of maize and nine lakh tonne of oilseeds in the state under the National Food Security Mission.
Among several resolutions for rejuvenating the agrarian sector, it was resolved to harness the potential of horticulture produce for export of grapes, pomegranate and lime, accord highest priority to seed production, notify the recent Amendment to APMC Act, strengthen agriculture extension, expedite the implementation of Vaidyanathan Committee Report on rural credit and endeavour to achieve additional milk production of 10 lakh tonne.
