JFA condemns militants' threat to Manipur media
Guwahati, Aug 03 (UNI) Journalists' Forum, Assam (JFA) has strongly condemned the anti-media attitude of a section of armed groups of Manipur, who have threatened the media persons of dire consequences. Suspected militants belonged to PREPAK (Peoples Revolutionary Army of Kangleipak) had issued a bomb threat to The Sangai Express editor Khogendra Khomdram.
Mr Khomdram is a functionary of the Editors' Forum of Manipur and it started with two rival factions of PREPAK had come out with diverse request for a news item and its clarification, where the editor became the target of the militants.
Meanwhile, the journalists of Manipur had staged demonstrations against the underground outfit. Scribes under the banner of All Manipur Working Journalists Union and Editors' Forum had also ceased publications of all the daily newspapers of the state since August 1. The local cable television too joined the agitation.
In a press statement JFA termed the manner, in which the PREPAK rebels threatened the scribes, as unethical and illogical. The organisation has also asked the state government for facilitating adequate security to the journalists of Manipur.
