Compensation of Rs 70 lakh paid till Aug. 2 for culled birds

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) A compensation of more than Rs 70 lakh has been paid to the owners of poultry farms till yesterday where culling took place for containing avian influenza in North and Eastern parts of Manipur.

Mopping up operations were carried out yesterday also and 27 teams were deployed for operations.

The total number of birds culled so far has reached 3,31,606, number of eggs destroyed 28,103 and feed destroyed, 25,242 kg.

Surveillance in the radius of 5-10 km from the epicenter is in progress.

Door-to-door surveillance is being undertaken through 7 teams.

Total of 783 households and abot 1,27,000 poultry have been covered by door-to-door surveillance.

In addition, general surveillance is being maintained which indicates no unusual mortality in the area of operation or any other part of the State.

Work of cleaning and dis-infection is in progress. About 16 RRTs assisted by labourers (58) and malaria workers of the Health Department (15) were engaged in the task of cleaning and dis-infection.

Other RRTs were rested today.

The labour and malaria workers were subjected to health check-up and given briefing in use of PPE kit and Tamiflu. Accommodation will be provided by the State Government to labour involved in clean up and dis-infection.
