BJP announces stir for 'Liberation Day' observance
Hyderabad, Aug 3 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh will hold dharnas in the Telangana region, demanding that the state government celebrate the 'Hyderabad Liberation Day' on September 17, taking a cue from Maharashtra and Karnataka governments.
The Congress government should realise that the day on which Hyderabad was liberated and merged with the Indian union was as important as August 15, and come forward to hold celebrations, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister of State for Home Ch Vidyasagar told a press conference here.
He wondered why the government was hesitating to acknowledge the contribution of freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives for liberation of Hyderabad from the 'autocratic' Nizam rule, while celebrations were being organised officially in five districts in Maharashtra and three districts in Karnataka.
The party would hold dharnas in all the mandal headquarters forming part of the erstwhile Hyderabad state, upto September 17 to press the demand, he added.
