About two dozen demonstrators injured in police action in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 3 (UNI) About two dozen persons were injured when police fired teargas shells and resorted to baton charge in north Kashmir to disperse demonstrators, protesting against alleged molestation of a woman by soldiers.

Official sources said hundreds of people, mostly women and children, took to the streets at Trambgund, Sopore, about 55 km from here demanding immediate action against soldiers who allegedly molested a woman.

The demonstrators, who blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road for about three hours demanded registration of a case against the soldiers by police.

Police fired teargas shells and resorted to repeated baton charge to disperse them.

Senior police and civil officers visited the spot and assured the demonstrators that action would be taken against the soldiers if they were found involved in the incident.

Sources said about two dozen demonstrators besides few police personnel were injured in the stone pelting and police action.
