US FCC commissioner wants review of News Corp/DJ deal
WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (Reuters) The US Federal Communications Commission should examine whether News Corp.'s deal to acquire Dow Jones runs afoul of any of the agency's rules, Democratic Commissioner Michael Copps said today.
''We should immediately conduct a careful factual and legal analysis of the transaction to determine how it implicates specific FCC rules and our overarching statutory obligation to protect the public interest,'' he said in a statement.
Copps, who has fought hard against media consolidation, said the deal would lead to fewer independent voices, particularly in New York City.
