Lucknow, Aug 2 (UNI) In a bid to grab a share in the expanding market of the National Capital Region, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to set up a flower 'mandi' in Noida.

The state horticulture department, along with Mandi Parishad is planning the flower market as part of the state horticulture mission.

The proposed flower market will also help flower growers from the state to sell their produce at competitive rates, officials at the horticulture department said.

UP farmers had been growing gerbera, gladiolus and rajnigandha, which have a good demand in Delhi, Noida and neighbouring areas. But so far farmers of western UP had the benefit of selling their produce in the NCR. With the flower market on the cards, flower growers from other parts of the state are set to benefit.

Flower growers from various parts of the state will get encouragement in selling their produce at competitive rates as the government is involved in the project, claimed officials.

The Horticulture Department and Mandi Parishad will together bear the cost of the proposed market.
