Two militants infiltrating from PoK killed in Poonch

Jammu, Aug 2 (UNI) Two militants of a group trying to infiltrate into the Indian side from Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district were killed early this morning while an army officer and two jawans were wounded, official sources said.

Troops of 24 RAJPUT were fired upon heavily when they challenged a group of people moving under suspicious circumstances near the Line of Control (LoC) at Salotri at around 0330 hrs.

The Army retaliated and in the ensuing shoot-out, two militants were killed.

A Major and two jawans of the Army were also wounded in the encounter and were seen being rescued by their fellow colleagues from the site, sources added.

However, other members of the group of five to six infiltrators managed to escape to the other side of the LoC, they informed.

The identity of the militants is being ascertained.
