Agartala, Aug 2 (UNI) Crimminal Investigation Department(CID) of Tripura police has launched an enquiry into the case filed against a share broker last month regarding misappropriation of public investment.

CID officials here today said that it had sought help from Mumbai police while state police were trying to hunt him and associates down.

According to the officials, the case had been progressing satisfactorily.

Earlier, Agartala police had detained seven employees of the agent for interrogation and subsequently handed over the case to CID, following several complaints filed against the concern.

Share business in Tripura had suffered a major jolt when a local agent of a Mumbai-based share broker was found absconding with a large amount of money invested by individuals in his account.

According to the report, Prasanta Choudhury, a local agent of Mumbai-based share broker Apollo Sindhoori was running the business for several years and many of the investors used to buy shares of various companies in his account on the basis of a profit sharing agreement.

Mr Jitendra Debbarma, one the major investors in Mumbai share market, who purchased shares of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) worth Rs eight lakh in the agent's account early this year, last month found the amount missing from the account.

Mr Debbarma could not meet Mr Choudhury as his employees failed to provide his whereabouts for days together forcing Mr Debbarma to file an FIR with the West Agartala Police. During investigation of the case police received as many as seven complaints of missing funds deposited on Mr Choudhury's account.
