Toll due to monsoon-related diseases reaches 86
Mumbai, Aug 2 (UNI) Four more people have died due to monsoon- related diseases in the city, taking the death toll to 86.
Speaking to reporters here today, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Jairaj Phatak said 80 people had lost their lives due to monsoon-related diseases till July-end, as compared to 89 deaths during the same period last year.
He said the administration was taking adequate steps to curb the diseases and reduce the number of deaths. The number of admissions this year has been 10,865, while it was 7,187 last year.
Fever and malaria have been the most fatal diseases, which have claimed 29 and 21 deaths this year, while the figure was 28 and 26 deaths respectively last year, he informed.
The other fatal disease leptospirosis claimed 25 lives this year and 22 last year, civic health officials said.
