Students' bodies protest inadequate flood aid in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 2 (UNI) Separate protest rallies were today taken out in the city by students' and youth bodies, demanding more Central relief for the flood-hit state.

The All Assam Students' Union(AASU) activists took out a procession in the city. They alleged failure of the state government in providing adequate relief to the flood-hit areas.

They demanded announcement of a special package by the Centre for the state. The AASU also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (Urban).

The All India Youth Federation(AIYF) and All India Students' Federation(AISF) also organised a protest rally in the city on the flood situation.

Maintaining that the state government had failed to provide relief to the people, they demanded that the annual floods be declared a national problem.

They also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh through the DC, exhorting him to provide greater aid to the state he represented in the Rajya Sabha.
