Special recruitment drive for open category soon:CM
Mumbai, Aug 2 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the government will embark on a recruitment drive for the open category in government services to fill the vacant posts.
Replying to a point of propriety raised by Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Ramdas Kadam, Mr Deshmukh said a review of the number of vacant posts under the open category will be undertaken and a proposal would be placed before the cabinet soon for approval. The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) will also be taken into confidence.
A Special Leave Petition would be filed in the High Court to seek permission to fill in vacancies in departments, where the backlog of handicapped persons recruitment has been completed. Mr Deshmukh brought to the notice of the house a directive of the High Court stating that no recruitment should be carried out before filling up the vacant posts reserved for handicapped persons.
Mr Deshmukh said about 1.30 lakh posts in the SC/ST category have been filled so far.
Earlier, Mr Kadam said the government was yet to fill 1.48 lakh vacant posts for the open category and wondered whether it was a crime to be born in a higher caste.
