Chandigarh, Aug 2 (UNI) Strongly advocating the need for making the growth process inclusive and broad based, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues called upon the corporate sector to adopt a proactive approach to empower the less-privileged sections of the society.

Presenting a key note address after inaugurating e-Revolution 2007 Conclave, here today, General Rodrigues said, ''Two hundred and sixty million people living below the poverty line are the untapped human resource of our country and every developmental initiative must ensure that the benefits reach them.'' ''The less-privileged people in the country should be provided entrepreneurship education, technology training and professional skills to enable them to assist in the business arena and contribute to the progress and prosperity of the nation,'' Mr Rodrigues said.

Strongly pleading for restructuring the primary and higher education system to suit the growing needs, General Rodrigues informed that the Chandigarh Administration had embarked upon an innovative Computer Interactive Programme to improve the teaching and learning processes.

He said Intel and various other computer technology related companies have come forward to support this programme for empowering the young children through IT techniques.

''The administration's major aim is to bridge the digital divide and ensure e-revolution benefits to the common man,'' the Governor said.
