RJD objects entry of foreign companies into Andaman
Port Blair, Aug 2 (UNI) The RJD today objected to the reported awarding of contracts to foreign companies, with a joint venture, for fishing Tuna in the Andaman Sea.
Recently, Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh had announced that two private companies came forward for setting up Tuna Export Industries in the islands.
However, RJD president of Andaman unit P Ganeshan said the tremendous potential of this marine product here should be utilised but before that the administration must formulate a comprehensive fishing policy to protect the interest of local fishermen.
He had also written a letter to the Lt Governor of the island for safeguarding the interest of tsunami hit fishermen and restrict the entry of foreign companies.
India Tuna Fishery Ltd and Japanese 'Moon' were interested to explore the Tuna Potential of Andaman sea, he said.
