Rains bring waterlogging, traffic jams for Delhi
New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) Incessant rains that lashed Delhi overnight led to water-logging and traffic snarls in various parts of the city today.
Several incoming trains were delayed due to the rains, though there was no waterlogging on the rail tracks, said Mr Rajiv Saxena, CPRO, Northern Railway.
The monsoon showers were welcomed by Delhiites after two days of muggy weather, but water-logging brought woes to office goers and school-going children. Commuters had to wade through deep water at some places to reach their offices, while many vehicles were stranded on the way, causing traffic jams.
Met department said 184 mm of rainfall has been recorded till 1730 hrs today since yesterday bringing the temperature down to 28 degrees celsius, six degrees below normal.
Major jams were reported at busy intersections like ITO, Minto Bridge, Nizamuddin station area, Dhaula Kuan, Hauz Khas and Rajinder Nagar.
Among the worst affected were the areas like Laxmi Nagar where construction activities of the Metro Rail and the PWD are being undertaken.
''I generally reach my Rafi Marg office in 25 minutes from my home in Naraina. It took me over an hour to reach today because of jams near Rajinder Nagar,'' said Shekhar Arora, an executive with a media company.
With many Blue Line buses staying off the roads due to the fitness drive of the government, commuters had a harrowing experience.
The Met department has forecast more rain with one or two heavy spells in various parts of the city over the next 24 hours.
