Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 (UNI) The Orissa government today framed charges against suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanjeeb Marik and issued showcause notice to him asking as to why disciplinary proceedings will not be initiated against him for having alleged nexus with the criminals from outside the state.

The action against Mr Marik, former chief of State Police Academy, was taken after Director General of Police Amarananda Pattnaik submitted a report to the State Home Department.

Mr Marik had been given a month time to reply to the showcause as to why action would not be taken against him on the basis of the findings of the DGP report.

The DGP had also earlier submitted an inquiry report on Mr Marik on the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik based on which the state government had suspended the IGP on May 18 last.

Acting on the newspaper report, the Chief Minister on May 10 directed the state DGP to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within a week.

The inquiry was ordered on the basis of an allegation that the senior IPS officer had nexus with the criminals from Jharkhand involved in looting of Rs 23 lakh from Bhadrak LIC office in February last.

The DGP had visited the Bhadrak jail where the criminals involved in the LIC office loot case were lodged and probed into the matter.

The Chief Minister had indicated that he had directed the State Home Secretary to initiate departmental disciplinary proceedings against Mr Marik on the basis of the findings of the inquiry report.
