Bangalore, Aug 2 (UNI) Opposition members in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly tonight staged a dharna to protest against 'poor' allocation of funds for development of North Karnataka Region.

Leader of the Opposition N Dharam Singh and others, raising the issue, alleged the government had ignored the recommendations of the D M Nanjundappa Committee and did not implement programmes effectively.

Legislators from the region quoted various statistics and took the government to task for 'ignoring' the region.

When Planning Minister Ramachandre Gowda tried to reply to the discussion, the members expressed dissatisfaction and trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans.

Deputy Speaker N Y Gopalakrishna, who was in the chair, adjourned the House for ten minutes.

When the House reassembled, the Opposition members withdrew dharna following assurance by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M P Prakash that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would reply to the issue on August 6.
