MP Govt provides Rs 617 crore subsidy for power consumers

Bhopal, Aug 2 (UNI) With the objective to protecting low paying-capacity consumers, including farmers, from the burden of increased tariff fixed by State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPSRC) for 2007-08, power would be supplied to them at the rates fixed for 2006-07.

As per the procedure laid down by the MPSERC, the government would provide subsidy of Rs 617 crore to offset this loss.

The decision was taken during the state cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today.

Accordingly, the new tariff fixed by the MPSERC on March 30, 2007, for domestic consumers consuming upto 30 units monthly would be Rs 175 paise per unit instead of the increased rate, an official release here said.

Powerloom consumers with connected load of upto 25 horse powers would get electricity at 200 paise per unit instead of revised rates and the billing would be based on actual consumption.

The rates of power supply for low-tension agricultural consumers would be 120 paise per unit for consumption upto 300 units and 170 paise per unit for consumption more than 300 units.

Temporary connections would be charged at 220 paise per unit consumption, while power supply through DTR meter would cost 120 paise per unit consumption.

Power supply to gram panchayats for low-tension street light schemes would be made at Rs 45 per KW per month and to Nagar Palikas and Nagar Panchayats at Rs 85 per KW per month.

The high-tension irrigation consumers would be exempt from annual minimum charge.
