Jabalpur, Aug 2: The Madhya Pradesh government is considering a proposal to establish a medical university in the state, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said.

An announcement of this nature was made in this cantonment town two years back by his immediate predecessor Babulal Gaur who is the Commerce and Industry Minister.

''Jabalpur will boast of an IT Park in the near future. The state government has finalised a working plan to set up an IT Centre here after successful implementation at Bhopal and Indore. The infrastructure to establish the IT Park will be made available by the state government soon,'' Mr Chouhan told the sources late last night.

Pointing out that the government was serious about all-round development of this town, he added that the Jabalpur Development Authority, Municipal Corporation and district administration were making efforts for planned development. About 200 encroaching religious structures were peacefully relocated from public places and the Chief Minister appreciated the administration's efforts in that direction.

Referring to schemes launched for the benefit of the poor and Backward Classes (BC), Mr Chouhan mentioned mobile hospitals for villagers, Ladli Laxmi Yojna for girls and formation of the police's Rani Durgawati Women's Battalion and women's desks at every police station.

''The most notable achievement of the year is our decision to implement 50 per cent reservation for women in local bodies,'' he claimed.

Mr Chouhan appreciated efforts by Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi for implementing various projects and schemes by providing medical facilities to tribal and BC villagers through primary health centres by appointing doctors and providing sufficient medicine stock.

''A scheme exists for providing facilities to poor and BPL women for delivery in private hospitals. The administration will pay Rs 1,400 as delivery charge and treatment charges will also be met. The scheme is effective in 70 per cent of private hospitals and maternity homes in Madhya Pradesh,'' Mr Chouhan claimed.

A state-level panchayat is on the anvil for discussing problems of farmers and labourers.
